Our Home School Contract is an important document to help us all work in partnership together to support students achieve their very best.
As a School/Staff …
Learning
All that we do is embedded in the gospel values and the teachings of Jesus Christ. We ‘Achieve Together Through Christ’.
- We believe every pupil at St Edmund Campion is capable of academic success.
- It is through hard work on the part of each pupil, with our support, that their potential will be realised.
- We will deliver a knowledge based academic curriculum and set challenging academic targets.
- We will make sure we plan our lessons carefully and continually interest pupils in the challenging work that paves the way for success in school and life.
- We will organise and deliver intervention and revision sessions for your child where we feel that this is needed to help them reach the highest possible grades.
- We will reward pupils’ effort and commitment.
- We will set appropriate and relevant homework weekly, including on weekends, which we will check.
Pastoral Care
- We will ensure that each pupil’s Form Tutor and Head of Year follow their progress and ensures that their individual needs are met.
- We will go out of our way to get to know each of our pupils as individuals.
- We will care about our pupils’ wellbeing and always keep them safe.
Parent-School Communication
- We believe that, through regular communication, a relationship of trust between school and home can be created.
- We will hold parent meetings at least once a year and issue a school tracking sheet twice a year.
- We will make sure that pupils and parents will be able to contact their Head of Year by phone and email and will reply to all communications from parents as soon as possible. We ask parents to understand that staff have lessons and may not be able to respond to emails immediately.
- We will collect and check homework at the end of the week in form and in lessons where it has been set. If it is not complete or up to the required standard, we will contact parents to inform them that their child will be staying to complete homework after school. This information will also be available on the MyChildAtSChool (MCAS) app.
- We promise to welcome parents into the school community.
Discipline
- We will enforce the St Edmund Campion School Behaviour Policy consistently and fairly.
- We will protect pupils from poor behaviour by insisting on the highest standards and holding pupils to account for their actions.
- We will keep pupils in detention and/or in the school Reflection Room if a pupil’s behaviour falls below our high standards.
- We will exercise our right to detain pupils who incur sanctions. We do not allow parents to withdraw pupils from their detention.
- We do NOT allow parents to sanction any deviation from the school uniform. Any deviation such as the wearing of trainers can only be sanctioned by the school if a medical note signed by a medical professional is provided. In these
circumstances the school will issue a medical pass. This must be always carried by the pupil and can be requested to be shown to any member of staff at any time without question.
- We reserve the right to confiscate any item from a pupil that contravenes our school policy.
- We do not allow mobile phone use in school and if a pupil has their phone out it will be confiscated, a C30 detention issued and the phone will only be returned to parents/carers. The only exemption to this is students who require their phone for medical needs.
No Behaviour Policy or Home School Contract can cover all eventualities. The Principal reserves the right to help St Edmund Campion pupils make better choices and learn the right lessons.
As Parents/Carers …
Learning
- We respect the Catholic ethos and vision of the school.
- We believe our child is capable of academic success.
- We will support the school’s efforts by encouraging the best possible standards in our child’s studies.
- It is through hard work on the part of our child, with our support, that their potential will be realised.
- We will ensure that our child punctually attends all intervention and revision classes identified for them.
- We understand that our child will have homework every week and that it will increase in length as they progress through the school. It is our responsibility to see that homework is completed.
- We will support homework completion by providing a quiet working area at home for our child to study.
- We understand if homework is not completed our child will attend after school Homework Detention.
- We will encourage our child to attend Homework Club after school if they need any support with their homework.
Attendance
- We will ensure our child arrives in school before line-up begins.
- We will not plan for family holidays or other absences during term time. We accept that the school will refer any unauthorised absence of this nature to the Education Welfare Officer, which will result in the issuing of a fixed penalty.
- We will make certain that our child attends school every day, except in cases of illness or another legitimate reason. We will schedule routine doctor and dentist appointments during times when the school is not in session. If our child is absent, we will report the absence via the
- MCAS app before 8.30 am on each day of absence.
- We will only allow our child to stay at home if they are vomiting, have diarrhoea, a temperature or other indication of illness such as a rash. If our child is complaining of a headache or sore stomach, we will ensure that they attend school in the knowledge that, if they become too ill to remain in school, we will be contacted. The following link to NHS guidance is useful: www.nhs.uk/live-well/is-my-child-too-ill-for-school
- We will ensure our child adheres to the correct policy for notifying us if they become ill at school. We understand that they must not contact us directly but should report their illness to their Head of Year or Pastoral Support who will assess them and contact us if our child is too ill to remain in school, or to request our permission for painkillers to be administered.
Uniform & Equipment
- We will make sure our child wears the full school uniform and brings the correct equipment to school each day. We understand that we cannot sanction any deviation from the uniform policy. Various items of school uniform and equipment can be purchased at school/on the MCAS app. We understand that uniform violations will result in the child being sent home to collect the items, or us bringing the proper items to school. If this is not possible, we understand our child will be placed in the reflection room until issues are rectified.
- We understand we need to provide a signed medical note from a medical professional so that the school can issue a medical pass in the event of a medical reason to deviate from the school uniform. We understand that any member of staff at any time can ask our child to show this medical pass without question.
- We understand that any violation of the school uniform policy regarding shoes means that out child will be issued with a pair of school shoes to wear on that day in exchange for their mobile phone. We understand that we must put the ‘damaged’ or ‘ripped’ school shoes into our child’s school bag to show the member of staff. (The phone will be returned at the end of the school day.)
Parent-School communication
- We will always make ourselves available to the school by providing an up-to-date phone number and e mail address.
- We will read all reports carefully and attend all parent meetings/school information evenings.
- We will always treat all members of staff with respect and courtesy.
- We will only attend the school outside of the designated parents’ evenings with an appointment made via the school office.
Discipline
- We will support the school’s consequences for misbehaviour without reservation.
- We will not engage in any form of intimidation or aggression towards school staff. (If this occurs the school will be liable to take police action and initiate an immediate banning order for those parents from our school site.)
- We understand that behaviour/homework detentions happen on the day that they are given.
- We understand that our child cannot be excused from any detention.
- We understand that if our child commits a serious breach of the Behaviour Policy, that there will be serious consequences which may include in school isolation, suspension or permanent exclusion.
- We understand that if a child’s mobile phone is confiscated, we must pick up the phone from school.
