Work Experience Week – Year 12 Summer Term
Work experience week takes place at the end of the summer term for students in Year 12. Students are expected to organise placements themselves which should, ideally, be relevant to the career or HE course they are contemplating or, at least, an opportunity for them to develop transferable skills. Work experience should be arranged as early as possible, as some companies allocate places up to a year in advance.
Most universities expect that students will have done at least one work experience placement during their sixth form programme. Some vocational degree courses, such as Primary Education or Veterinary Science, demand two weeks’ relevant experience as an absolute minimum.
Students will need to discuss this with their Personal Tutor. Some students will need to consider completing additional placements during holiday periods.
Our Careers programme in the Sixth Form supports you in preparing for your Post 18 options and guides you in making informed choices.
We offer a varied programme which includes the following:
- Careers input in Progression Time
- Guest speakers
- Subscription to Unifrog
- Pathways CTM insight events, coaching and online support
- One to one support and careers interviews with our independent Careers Adviser Georgie McMath.
- University visits
