25th Sunday in Ordinary Time
“You cannot be the slave of both God and money”
“The man who can be trusted in little things can be trusted in great; the man who is dishonest in little things will be dishonest in great.”
St Luke’s gospel this week challenges us to identify those things that are important in life. Having identified them we then have to make choices. This can often be where the difficulty lies. In the line above we see that trust and choice are interrelated. This week may we pray for the strength to make the correct choices in life and commit ourselves totally to God.
What is Prayer?
“For me, prayer is a surge of the heart; it is a simple look turned toward heaven, it is a cry of recognition and of love, embracing both trial and joy.” (St. Thérèse of Lisieux, Manuscrits autobiographiques, C 25r.)
St Paul’s letter to Timothy helps focus our minds and hearts on prayer. We are instructed to Pray for everyone to God, who wants everyone to be saved.
Praying with the Pope in September
The September Intention; it’s topical, urgent and presents a huge opportunity, a challenge, to every one of us.
We consider the environment, our God-given “common home”, as the Pope called our world in his great letter, Laudato Si, published just over four years ago.
His intention for September is about The Protection of the Oceans: “That politicians, scientists and economists work together to protect the world’s seas and oceans”.
This urgent request for our prayers - and action – comes just when awareness is growing of just how pressing this question is.
At last, we’re waking up, opening our eyes to the disaster that has already begun.
More and more of us are taking seriously how little time is left to act, to avert the catastrophe.
