Message from the vice Principal

23 February 2024

Dear Parents/Carers

It was lovely to see our students return to us after the half term break but typically the weather has not been as lovely on a couple of mornings!

This week, as is usual here at Campion, has been packed full of events and activities to support our young people.
Year 11 have had a real focus on their GCSE’s as they begin the final journey to the start of their exam period. As well as being in over half term to work with our dedicated staff, Y11 have been working with external provider, Impress Education, and looking to “Impress the Examiner!”. Furthermore, they have been busy recording their BTEC Enterprise presentations. Well done year 11!
I also personally had the privilege of meeting some of our Y11 this week for hot chocolate and biscuits and discuss their thoughts about their schooling and their future aspirations! They really were a credit to their year group.

In sports, our year 9 and 10 boys football teams both had district cup semi-finals, both against Arthur Terry School. Year 10 ran out 3-1 winners and progress to the final against Bishop Walsh. Unfortunately, year 9 were beaten 6-2 but in a closer match than the score suggested. Well done though to all our pupils who represented our school.
Talking of representing the school, a number of our students were also involved in the Catholic Partnership Public Speaking Event. Stay posted for how they did next week.

Around school we have also had a real focus on our literacy and how it is being used within the classroom. It has been wonderful to see our young people at work in the classroom.
Punctuality has once again been a big focus for us this week and I would again like to emphasise the importance of students being in school on time. Students need to be on the playground by 8.45, but it is advisable for them to be there for 8.40 to avoid picking up a late sanction, as the gates close at 8.45 sharp.

Please also be mindful of the significance of being in school and not taking time off. Taking a day off means 5 hours of face to face teacher time lost which is incredibly difficult to claw back.
With this in mind this week we have been undertaking one of our attendance focus weeks with students being entered into prize draws for their attendance during this time! It really is wonderful to see students recognising the importance of being in school every day.

Finally, as it was the first Sunday in Lent this week I will leave you with this Lenten thought and prayer. Have a wonderful weekend.

Mr Harrison

Vice Principal

Lent is the time where we focus on God and make a more concerted effort to put Him first in our lives. We spend much time thinking and reflecting on our relationship with God. It's a challenging time where we take a hard look in the mirror and identify where we can make changes – where our walk does not match our talk.
Heavenly Father, As I enter another week of my Lenten journey, guide me to the path that leads to you. Fill my heart with gratitude, patience, strength, and peace as I strive to become the-best-version-of-myself and honestly admitting my shortcomings.

Amen
