Dear Parents/Carers
I can’t believe there is only one more week to go until the end of the academic year,
the summer term really has flown by, even if the weather isn’t letting us know it is summer yet!
There has been so much going on in our school community this week once again, it is staggering how much has actually taken place.
We started the week with our Year 10 Geographers heading out to Carding Mill Valley.
This was an incredible effort by our Geography team, and other staff who joined them, allowing almost 130 pupils across two days to undertake essential fieldwork in preparation for their Paper 3 examination. Many of them had never experienced an environment like Carding Mill Valley before and it was wonderful to hear the experiences they had. Well done to all involved!
Further to the Year 10 trip we had two Year 7 trips out this week on Monday and Wednesday to Rock Up and Café Ceramica. Both of these trips again were really successful and demonstrated the diverse opportunities we give our young people as a school community.
The fun and work has not stopped there though. On Thursday and Friday of this week we undertook our sports days. These are not just any old sports days though and demonstrate once again the dedication and attention to detail our school staff put into making meaningful experiences for our young people.
Although Thursday for Year 8 and 10 had to be called off with about an hour and a half to go due to the wonderful British Summertime (rain!), the experience offered for all in track and field events and some slightly less traditional events meant a great time was had by all and the spirits of the staff and students were not dampened by the weather.
On Friday we brought the Sports Day for Years 7 and 9 to the indoors, just to be on the safe side and once again it shows just how wonderfully creative our staff can be when faced with adversity.
I would like to thank the PE team and everyone involved for their incredibly hard work and hope that everyone has dried off now. Well done all!
Alongside our sports days we ran our review days where hopefully you managed to get the opportunity to come into school and discuss the progress of your child. These have proved invaluable days and once again we thank our staff for their hard work and dedication.
The Sixth Form have been no less busy this week with their final Super Learner Day of the academic year and review day on Thursday and Friday. We really are lucky to be able to offer such a diverse range of activities for our students and once again I want to pay tribute to the staff for giving as they do.
Within the busyness of it all, we still had time to welcome the parents of our new Year 7 students to an information evening on Wednesday. It was wonderful to see so many of them in school with us finding out the finer details of what can be expected for their children when they join us in September. It really was brilliant to see so many there, especially given a certain Football match was taking place later on that evening!
And still, even with all of those things taking place, we also managed to find time to welcome the new staff joining our community in September; it really has been a busy week!
So, with a week to go, can I please remind you of two things. Firstly, the importance of attendance in the final week of term. Making a solid end to the year is so important. Secondly, if you haven’t downloaded the MyChildAtSchool app please look out for the instructions on how to do so which have been emailed to you. This will be the main form of communication from September.
Finally, it seems only fitting, given the teamwork that has taken place in our school community this week and the teamwork demonstrated by another fantastic team on Wednesday that I leave you with a prayer for just that and the understanding that for any team to be successful there are moments where we all need to play our part!
Have a wonderful weekend and let us hope we are all smiling late on Sunday night!
Mr Harrison
Vice Principal
Dear Lord,
Grant us the grace we need to be good teammates, that our contributions to this team may make others better and that the experience may be more fruitful because of our participation. Give us the courage to sacrifice for the good of the team when necessary and the wisdom to know when to do so.
Amen
