Message from the Principal

10 November 2023

Dear Parents/Carers

A very busy week to start the second half term of the year here at Campion. On Wednesday we held the first super learning day of the year. Year 9 enjoyed a fantastic trip to the Science Museum in London and huge thanks to all the staff who took them. Year 8 had their retreat day looking at Catholic Social teachings and their part in contributing to the greater good. This ended with a wonderful Mass at the Erdington Abbey church which was said by Father Ciaran. Thank you to all the students who were very reverent and respectful as always and thank you to the RE and Art departments who facilitated this. Year 10 had a day learning life skills around finance. They also took part in the fantastic stock market challenge and thank you to the maths department for putting this on for them. Year 7 had a very important day learning how to keep themselves safe and watched a production from the always excellent Loudmouth. Some of the sixth form enjoyed a trip to Coventry University to gain experience of university life whilst others gained invaluable first aid training.

Year 11 have had a very busy week. On Monday, 50 students had some expert support for their English GCSE mock examinations delivered by Impress the Examiner. This was a hugely successful day for them and the presenters were very impressed with the students’ attitudes to the day. On Wednesday for their Super Learning Day they were involved in some powerful study skills sessions to aid their revision. On Thursday each student had a mock interview with some very special guest volunteers from our local community. These included Mr Emery the St John Paul II Multi Academy CSEL who was extremely impressed with their attitudes and Mr Daly our Chair of Governors. All of our guests were highly impressed with the students and a big thank you goes out to all of the volunteers for giving up their time.

The post 16 and year 11 mock examinations begin next week and we wish all students taking these the very best of luck. It is very important that all students ensure they are well prepared and take the time to revise. It is also our post 16 open evening next Wednesday and we would encourage all of our year 11 students (and parents) to attend so that you can see first hand what our outstanding sixth form has to offer.

With the cold weather approaching, can I urge parents to ensure their children are prepared for this. Students should come to school with a coat which is dark in colour. They should also have a plain black V neck jumper (remember hoodies or tracksuit tops are not allowed).

I will leave you with this short prayer:

Father, please pour out Your blessings upon our whole school community so that everyone grows in the knowledge of Your truth, love, wisdom and peace. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

Kind Regards
