Dear Parents and Carers
This week our Year 9 pupils have sat their Progress Tests and have conducted themselves in a focused and mature manner. Behind the scenes, we continue to make good progress with the options process preparation for Year 9 and will be able to share individual options next half-term.
Assemblies this week have focused on Careers and Careers Planning. Pupils were introduced to the three-step model: Step 1: Finding out all about themselves – skills, likes and dislikes; Step 2: Exploring ideas and researching different pathways and Careers; Step 3: Planning how they could achieve the career they want. It was another opportunity to remind our pupils of the three excellent sources of information that they can access, which are Unifrog, Pathways CTM and the careers pages on our school website. Next half-term we will start our summer PSHE focus on Careers and we are looking forward to launching our new resources.
We also had an insightful and engaging Careers assembly from Dawn Williams, a Chartered Building Surveyor and Building Engineer from Eos Surveyors Ltd. Dawn explained that surveying was the measurement, valuation, protection and enhancement of the world’s physical assets and explained how she got into her job and what she enjoys about it.
This week we have also welcomed three presenters from the Speak Out Challenge, a programme delivered in collaboration with the Speakers Trust. The workshops were designed to support young people to improve their oracy skills, developing their ability to express themselves confidently and clearly. They took part in public speaking and persuasion tasks all designed to have a focus on improving pupils’ abilities to express themselves confidently and clearly. Our pupils had the opportunity to reflect on the importance of speaking and listening skills, including the behaviour and language necessary to become strong and effective communicators. Congratulations to 10C2, 10C3 and 10E3 who all took part and impressed the presenters!
Finally, thank you to all parents who took part in our Parent Voice. I have included the results in the newsletter and have attached a ‘You Said, We Did’ section. Your feedback is important to us! We are looking forward to launching a new Parent App which we know will support us in communicating key messages to all parents, and are busily working behind the scenes to facilitate a September launch.
I leave you with an intercessory prayer:
We pray for the Church; may all Christians learn to listen to the voice of the Good Shepherd and respond to God's call in their life, following Jesus' way of love and justice. Lord, in your mercy.
Hear our prayer.
Amen
Good luck to our Year 11 and 13 pupils who I know are revising hard: your hard work will all be worth it.
